It Came To Me In The Shower

Creative thoughts and ideas

Chicken Soup in the Shower

It’s hard to believe that with more than 112 million copies of Chicken Soup for the Soul by Jack Canfield sold that he ever worried if the book would catch on enough for him to reach his goal of $100,000.  Jack had sent an intention to reach his goal not knowing exactly how he would reach it.  The inspiration and idea came to him in the shower one day.  He thought if he could sell 400,000 copies at just $0.25 each, then he would reach his goal.  When in the grocery store he saw the National Enquirer in the checkout line.  With their large circulation, he could reach enough people that he could accomplish his goal.

After speaking to a group of New York teachers, he was approached by a freelance writer for the National Enquirer.  The story must have done its job because he made $92,327 – close enough to his goal that he considered that inspired thought in the shower to have led him down the right path.

An Ocean of Inspiration

The Inner Voyage Cruise line is part workshop and part vacation and the idea for it all came to Peter Einstein (Whole Planet Tours and Conferences) in the shower.  In an interview with Randy Peyser, Einstein states, “It came to me as a vision. I had gone to sleep with the idea of trying to dream about a solution to make intuition and consciousness more accessible to the mainstream. When I woke up, I heard the word, ‘environment,’ in my head, but I had no idea what that meant. My wife is an intuition trainer. One of the things she teaches people is to take a shower to open one’s intuition because the water helps you to ‘go with the flow.’ I was in the shower, and all of a sudden I had this vision of lots of happy people on a cruise ship. I realized if the people were happy, that must mean the event would be successful. So I decided to create a combination vacation and workshop conference aboard a ship.”

The first cruise in 1997 drew 120 people.  Today Einstein’s Inner Voyage Cruises have been attended by thousands of people. Top motivational speakers and life coaches on their faculty have included Hale Dwoskin (The Sedoan Method), Mari Shimoff (Chicken Soup for the Women’s Soul), and many more experts teaching yoga, mediation and the core classes of transformational learning.

As If By Chance

I found Aquanotes from someone on Facebook after we had started this site and have to share their story..

AquaNotes® and Aqua LoveNotes® are products of Calmar Consulting Corporation.

The idea for waterproof notepads came from a Shower Thinker who always generated his best ideas and insights in the tranquility and solitude of a nice warm shower.

He began keeping a standard notepad and pencil outside his shower door to capture those ideas. Invariably, they ended up soggy, torn, and oftentimes illegible before he could get them back to his office. He experimented with a variety of waterproof writing apparatuses before his idea evolved into AquaNotes®….a waterproof note pad with paper that could easily be removed from the pad and taken with him to the office or on an errand.

The development of AquaNotes® made this Shower Thinker’s life more complete. But, in truth, he had only begun to understand the concept of “complete”. After reuniting with a long-lost love, he married and a new necessity arose…the need to have a special water-proof notepad on which to leave love notes in the shower for his new, wonderful bride. That’s when Aqua LoveNotes®was created.

Kevin Hall author of the new book Aspire commented on ideas he gets in the shower.  Kevin in a Facebook post said “Some of my best thoughts and insights for Aspire came while I was showering.  I wish I had a water proof  journal so I could write while showering.  On numerous occasions I found myself running out of the shower with a towel and wet hand to record the inspiration before it went a way.  I have a writer friend that keeps a white board in the shower to write on as  ideas and thoughts surface.

“Once you pick this book up you will find it hard to put down. The layers of examples and principles inside a single word can prove life changing. This is a treasure that I will refer to over and over again. (Stephen M. R. Covey, author of The Speed of Trust )

You’ve Been Sentenced Named in the Shower

You've Been Sentenced

Donald Mcneil was out for a nice family dinner trying to entertain the kids by playing Mad Libs on the back of the kids menu. The next morning, it came to him the shower and idea for a new game. He would make a game where there were thousands of ways to put sentences together. By the time he turned off the water, he knew what he would call it: “You’ve Been Sentenced.” In 2008, Mcneill’s game won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold award and along with this more distributor contracts and more products. Less than 4 years after Mcneill Designs for Brighter Minds formed the game in his shower it became a game show produced by Parris-Randall Productions.

The Shower Brings Out The Lyrics

We are in search of stories of ideas people have in the shower that turn into a success. I was able to find this one this morning.

According to BBC News, pop singer Eliza Doolittle scored her first ever top 20 single on Sunday with Pack Up, a lilting summer groove based around the music-hall tune Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag.

When asked hw she writes a hit sogn Eliza replied: “Like, I’ll be in the shower and I’ll start singing and the melody and the lyric will just come out. Then I’ll quickly try to finish the shower, try to remember it, record it on my phone and save it for the studio,”

If you know of anyone that had a success from an idea in the shower please contact us.
